What Is Bacon and How Come It Is Popular?
Bacon is believed to be one of the tastiest foods in Western culture. There are numerous sites dedicated to this topic. There are even fan clubs. Surprisingly, there are actually Bacon shoes (these are not genuinely made out of Bacon but are rather designed to appear as if they have been - do a query if you do not trust my word).
This, perhaps unexpected appeal, makes me wonder. Who invented bacon? How to cook bacon? Can you microwave bacon? How to make bacon? Can we do this ourselves? Which are the best bacon recipes? Is Bacon Healthy? Why do people love it so much?
Fortunately, the internet is a wonderful place to look for resources for such information. A quick search reveals that Bacon is simply cured meat that is made from various parts of a pig. There are numerous types of bacon which come from different areas of the pig (its belly, its side, its loins, its shoulder and even its cheeks). In addition, there are numerous methods of preparing it: it can be baked, boiled, grilled, fried, smoked, used as a component in a salad and in numerous additional methods. Indeed, bacon can most definitely be microwaved (i.e. using a microwave bacon cooker), and this is something we can do ourselves.
Since Bacon is made from pigs (though in certain countries, non-pork based bacon-like foods are also called bacon, which is in my honest opinion basically does not count), is actually not allowed for consumption for followers of Judaism and Islam. Judaism treats pigs as ‘dirty’ or ‘tainted’ creatures and as such, all meats made from them are prohibited.
